George R. R. Martin Recognized as One of Time 100

Big news for fantasy fans. Today George R. R. Martin, creator of the acclaimed series, A Song of Ice and Fire, has officially been added to this year’s list of Time magazine’s most influential people in The 2011 Time 100. Other names on the list include President Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Mark Zuckerberg just to name a few.

So far 2011 has been a big year for GRRM. The HBO adaptation of his novel, Game of Thrones, has been met with such wild critical and commercial success that it it’s been renewed for a second season after the first episode aired on Sunday. The next chapter of A Song of Ice and Fire, A Dance with Dragons, hits stores July 12th.

We always knew GRRM was great. It’s nice to see Time recognize it too.
