Natalie Portman, who was cast in Kenneth Branagh’s big screen adaptation of Marvel’s Thor as Jane Foster, recently did an interview with MTV where she let some casting info slip. Portman says that actress Kat Dennings (Defendor, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) has joined the cast!

She said in the interview:

Well I’m really excited. Kat Dennings is going to be in it with me and she’s a good friend and an amazing actress, so I’m looking forward to that.

Last month we showed you a casting call for Thor that included a character called Marcy Lewis –

“[MARCY LEWIS] (20) Is a college student. Aloof, jaded beyond her years, she thought her internship with scientist Kate Spelling would be an easy 6 college credits. However, she’s been stuck for months in this small New Mexico town and relegated to a wide range of unglamorous activities. Kate has been particularly hard on Marcy, making it her personal project to see that Marcy lives up to her potential. Marcy deals with her situation both by using subtle irony and by being an overt wiseass.”

While this character would be a good description for Kat’s character in Nick and Norah, there is also the matter of a message that Kat sent out via her twitter, stating;

Hell is gonna be awesome

This could be an innocent comment or it could be a hint that she will play HELA the Asgardian goddess of death who, according to legend was the child of the trickster Loki and the giantess Angrboda. When she came of age, Odin appointed HELA as the Goddess of Death, giving her rulership over the dead in the realms of Hel and Niffleheim.

In the same interview, Natalie Portman was enthusiastic about her part in the world of Asgard that Branagh will be adapting to film.

“Well, I was really excited when they told me Kenneth Branagh is directing it because it seemed like such a smart choice but such an unexpected choice, that it was like ‘This is really weird. I have to try this,'” Portman said.

Arriving in the Marvel Universe’s rendition of Norse mythology has required a lot of education, but she’s currently hard at work figuring out how it’s put together.

“Yeah I’ve been learning more about it now, I was really unschooled about the world of Thor before.”
