X-Men: First Class – New Images Show Off the Historic X-Mansion and the Retro Set Design

The release of the Matthew Vaughn directed, X-Men: First Class starring James McAvoy, Kevin Bacon, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Jason Flemyng, January Jones, Zoë Kravitz, Michael Fassbender, Oliver Platt and Ray Wise is now just weeks away.

If you’re wondering how well they have done, recreating that 1960’s vibe for the movie, look no further than the photos below from Architectural Digest (of all places). Apparently production designer Chris Seagers‘ designs were so good they ended up in the prestigious magazine

A composite set of several rooms was built to serve as the mod submarine of playboy villain Sebastian Shaw, played by Kevin Bacon (with January Jones as arm candy Emma Frost). Abstract artwork, streamlined furniture, and graphic wallpaper inject the necessary dose of ’60s style.

The Australia House, a 1918 London landmark, was transformed into the Kremlin’s war room using simple, architecturally noninvasive touches, such as a rounded conference desk and a freestanding Cold War-era map.

Englefield House, an Elizabethan manor in Berkshire, England, doubles as the X-Mansion-the home of Charles Xavier and his nascent training center for mutant youths.

Synopsis:

“X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.”

X-Men: First Class is slated to hit theaters on June 3rd, 2011
