Earlier this month, we brought you some horrifying footage of a zombie attack and subsequent zombie transformation from the set of World War Z, in Glasgow, Scotland. This spy footage of Paramount Pictures’ big-screen adaptation of the Max Brooks book has ignited some debate on the web about this rapid infection departing from the source material’s gradual infection process, so what does the director of the film have to say about this?
In an interview with MTV for his upcoming action film, Machine Gun Preacher, at the Toronto International Film Festival, Marc Forster talked about his approach to adapting the book to the silver screen and their interpretation of zombies:
Fans of the book have already reacted adversely to this film adaptation changing the timeline of the film from post-zombie war to having Brad Pitt’s character fight to stop the zombies from destroying the human race. Forster clearly intends to make this film stand apart from other zombie films but will it stray too far from Brooks’ book and piss off those zombie fans?
World War Z stars Pitt as Gerry Lane, a worker at the United Nations Post-War Commission, who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. The film also stars Mireille Enos (The Killing) as Pitt’s character’s wife, Daniella Kertesz in her feature film debut, James Badge Dale (The Departed) and Matthew Fox (Lost). World War Z is directed by Marc Forster with script was written by Matthew Michael Carnahan (State of Play).
World War Z is slated to hit theaters on December 21, 2012.
