We’ve been updating you on the rapid fire casting of Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire over these last few weeks since the announcement in April that Francis Lawrence (Constantine, I Am Legend) would take the helm, following Gary Ross’ departure from the franchise. This week, rumors have been swirling over who will play the ax-wielding Johanna Mason, a previous winner of the Hunger Games in this sequel.
The Playlist reported rumors that Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre, Alice in Wonderland), model/actress Zoe Aggeliki (R.I.P.D., Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters), and Jena Malone (Hatfields & McCoys, Sucker Punch) were in the running for the role of Johanna Mason. Now, Deadline reports that it seems that Aggeliki is the frontrunner the pack. Sources say that Aggeliki is “the one in the most serious talks” for this crucial role in the film. Mason also plays a large part in the third book of the trilogy, Mockingjay, so this role carries significant weight in both the story and for whichever lucky actress lands the role.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is slated to hit theaters on November 22nd, 2013.
