Warning: We May Be Losing POWERS

Not all of the news coming out of the Television Critics Association‘s Winter Press Tour is good news. FX president and GM John Landgraf gave reporters an update about the status of the pilot of Powers, the TV version of the graphic novel of the same name by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.

THR reports Landgraf as stating:

We didn’t pick the pilot of Powers up; we went back and Chic Eglee, who had written it, did a fairly substantial rewrite that would require pretty extensive reshoots of the pilot. Right now we’re in the process of deciding whether to pull the trigger on the reshoot.

And just as a reminder of what we may have to miss, here’s an excerpt from FX‘s press release about the pilot, back in June:

Powers is a high concept crime procedural where the detectives police the brutal and sensational crimes surrounding super power beings, while illuminating the weaknesses and strengths of humanity in the process. Powers follows the life of “Christian Walker” (Jason Patric), a homicide detective devoted solely to cases that involve “powers” (people with superpowers). The pilot also stars Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher) as “Deena Pilgrim,” Walker’s partner; Charles S. Dutton (Roc) as Walker’s indefatigable boss, “Captain Cross”; and Bailee Madison (Just Go With It) as “Calista,” an acerbic 10-year-old girl drawn into Walker’s life.

We’re still hoping. We’ll keep you posted.
