Back in the summer of 2009, we brought you the news when Warner Bros. Pictures started developing a movie around Lego and its popular building blocks. The studio hired Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman (Hotel Transylvania) to pen the script for what was described as an an action adventure, family comedy set in a Lego world that will mix live action and animation.
Now, Variety reports that the project is being animated by visual effects house Animal Logic and is expected to be 80% Lego based. Casting for the film is set to begin this coming January and the studio is planning a 2014 release for Lego: The Movie. The film will be directed by Chris McKay (Robot Chicken), Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs).
Lego: The Movie is slated to hit theaters in 2014.
