Well over a year ago, Shia LaBeouf and director DJ Caruso were attached to a big-screen adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra‘s Vertigo comic, Y: The Last Man. Last year, after LaBeouf and DJ Caruso dropped out of the project being put together by New Line Cinema, there were rumors that Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Clash of the Titans) was in talks to helm the project.
Now, THR reports that New Line has jettisoned the original script by Carl Ellsworth and is now in final negotiations with Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia (Human Target, Warehouse 13, Jericho) to pen the adaptation about Yorick, an escape artist who is the last survivor of a mysterious plague that has killed every male mammal in the world. With his pet monkey, he sets out to find what might have wiped out the world’s male chromosomes.
The project is being produced by J.C. Spink, Chris Bender and David Goyer.
No production or release dates have been announced for Y: The Last Man.
