WALKING DEAD: New Original Novels And An Extended Look At Making The AMC Series

A new book deal has been struck spinning off Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic series. A new trilogy of novels will be published by Thomas Dunne Books, an imprint of St. Martins press, in 2011. These novels will be set in Kirkman’s Walking Dead universe and Kirkman himself will be involved in the concept and outline of these original novels before handing it off to horror novelist Jay Bonansinga to “flesh out.”

The AMC television adaptation of Kirkman’s best selling comic will premiere on October 31, 2010. Showrunner Frank Darabont talked about how closely the show will be to the comic at New York Comic Con:

“We’re going in every spastic direction we can and we’re taking as many detours as we can. If good ideas come up, let’s not ignore them. We step off the path, we can always step back on it. There are going to be a lot of surprises even for the most devoted fans of the comic.”
