Another cartoon from the 80’s may make it to the big screen- “Voltron” is in the works!
Charles Roven, Richard Suckle and Steve Alexander (producers also of “Get Smart” and “The International”) of Atlas Entertainment are behind the cartoon’s re-boot effort for a live-action feature. “Wanted” producer, Jason Netter and Ted Koplar of Atlas are also on the producing team.
Here’s a little refresher on “Volton”:
Five pilots for five lions, representing different elements, defend their planet against evil creatures sent by the evil King Zarkon. These lions have the capability of joining together to form a single large robot, but this move is reserved for when they really need it to end their battles (which is the end of every battle).
Since it’s been off the air for the last 25 years, there is still a solid fan-base for “Voltron”. There was a re-boot attempt in the 90’s of the animated series and comics produced out of the indie label, Devil’s Due. (for more Voltron fandom check out: http://www.voltron.com )
Interest and fan-backing of “Voltron” has Hollywood rumbling about similar re-boots of “Robotech” another anime from the 80’s.
Koplar compares “Voltron” to “Transformers”:
“Unlike other robotic action movies, ‘Voltron’ is the personification of the human spirit, a quality that will set this movie apart.”
[Rant]
Wha? ‘Voltron’ is the personification of the human spirit? Ok, I remember Voltron and I am SO the Princess in the blue lion, but isn’t that aiming a little high? Unfortunately, when they draw comparisons to Transformers, I am both hopeful and disappointed at the same time. This could easily be grandly fubared!
