Reports of Viggo Mortensen (pictured here doing press for “The Road” with co-star, Kodi Smit-McPhee) retiring from acting are untrue. LOTR fans can breathe a sigh of relief! Viggo assures fans that he will not be retiring from the biz as an interview with Men’s Journal inferred.
Mortensen tells WENN:
“I know people are reading about that on the Internet. People just asked me if I had another movie lined up and I was honest and I said, ‘No, not yet.’ I guess most actors lie and say, ‘Oh, I have 12 projects, but I can’t really disclose them.’ At least they didn’t say I died!”
At a press conference to promote his new film “The Road”, Mortensen clarifies this mix-up:
“I was just honest with someone a little while back who asked me if I had a movie lined up. I said ‘no’ and they wrote ‘Oh, he’s quitting.’ I never said it”.
What is next for Mortensen outside the realm of movies then? Mortensen tells the press:
“I’m going to do a play next in Spain and beyond that I’m not sure what I’m doing… I think if you’re in a play, that’s considered acting as well.”
So there you have it, folks! Viggo is NOT quitting acting!!
Viggo stars in the upcoming film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi and Pulitzer winning tale,“The Road” that premieres on November 25.
