Director Michael Bay has started shooting segments for the third installment in the Transformers franchise, Transformers: The Dark of the Moon in Washington D.C.. The first accident involved an extra who was severely injured on the set in Indiana and now, everyone’s favorite Camaro was involved in a bit of an accident in D.C.

*Sadly, because the crew quickly covered Bumblebee from hood to trunk immediately following the accident, we can safely assume that the famous Camaro did not survive the accident… stay tuned to SciFiMafia.com for all the details on possible memorial services. Our hearts go out to his fellow Autobots.

The wreck was not scripted. The movie was filming a car chase scene on 3rd Street and Maryland Ave in southwest D.C. when the police SUV collided with Bumblebee. The officer in the SUV, and was reportedly not using the same police channel as the other units in that area.

The stunt driver at the wheel of Bumblebee was reportedly unharmed and the officer, who sustained minor injuries was taken to a nearby hospital.

Ouch! That damage is not pleasant to look at. Even though Michael Bay has loads of cash, you know he was breathing a sigh of relief that it was the Camaro, and not the red $230,000 Ferrari 458 Italia that was following closely behind the Bumblebee during that sequence.

Transformers 3 hits theaters on July 1st, 2011 and stars Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Kevin Dunn, Julie White, Ken Jeong, Patrick Dempsey and Alan Tudyk.

*Reports of Bumblebee’s death, may or may not have been exaggerated.
