This next season of the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” will hold the inevitable meeting of the vampire Katherine and her human, teenaged doppelganger, Elena. Both roles are played by Nina Dobrev who juggles the complexities of playing both the deliciously cruel and devious vampire who turned the Salvatore brothers and the brothers’ current human love interest. Executive producer, Julie Plec, teases the meeting between Katherine and Elena:
“I can’t talk much about it yet, but one of the big surprises is that Katherine comes face to face with Elena.”
This interesting turn of events will have Nina Dobrev doing double duty for these scenes. Dobrev joked about asking for a second pay check and talks about the challenge this poses for her as an actor:
“It will be difficult because a lot of acting is reacting to the other person, but it’ll be fun to step out of my comfort zone.”

One who will really have a head-trip with this meeting will be Salvatore brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder). To say that Somerhalder’s character has some unresolved issues with Katherine is an understatement, but to have both his estranged maker and this look-alike human in his life at the same time will allow fans to see more than one side of Damon. Somerhalder explains:
“It’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster for me. Damon, with Katherine, is this youthful wide-eyed fun guy who is so intrigued by her — so different from the maniacal, more mature Damon you see with Elena.
