Universal Pictures Courts Writer David Koepp for the SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN Sequel

Earlier this month, we reported to you that Universal Pictures was already looking in launching a sequel to its summer release of Snow White and the Huntsman. This darker take on the Snow White fairy tale is stocked with star power casting with Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth under the direction of visual master Rupert Sanders, but will it be enough to generate enough consumer interest in a sequel?

According to Deadline, Universal Pictures is already talking with writer David Koepp (Men in Black III, Spider-Man) to pen the sequel. The studio hopes to begin production quickly on the sequel in order to line up Rupert Sanders to direct again. No word if this sequel is indeed to focus on Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman character or not.

Synopsis of Snow White and the Huntsman:

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar-winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her.  But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joined the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

Snow White and the Huntsman is slated to hit theaters on June 1st, 2012.
