Back in November we brought you a report that Mark Wahlberg, himself had confirmed that he has been cast in the lead role of Nathan Drake in director David O. Russell‘s (Three Kings, The Fighter) forthcoming big-screen adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune for Columbia Pictures.
In that same interview, Wahlberg also confirmed that Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci were sought for roles in the movie, and had this to say about the roles they would play if they joined the cast:
“I’m obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It’s not going to be the watered-down version, that’s for sure.”
Now, according to an interview on Joystiq with Uncharted 3 video game director Justin Richmond, despite his own confirmation that he was signed onto this video game adaptation, Wahlberg has not been cast in the role. Richmond also stated that the family aspect of the story that involved roles they were reportedly courting Pesci and De Niro for is not true.
Richmond said,
“First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell. He actually called us up and was like, ‘I don’t know what these guys are talking about.'”

Keep hope alive, Nathan Fillion fans… there’s still a chance for him to grab this role!
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is slated to hit theaters in 2012.
