Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune – Mark Wahlberg Cast As Nathan Drake

Back in October, we told you that Columbia Pictures had announced that David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter) signed on to write and direct the big-screen adventures of treasure hunter Nathan Drake. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune will be an adaptation of the wildly successful action/adventure game on the PlayStation 3, in-which Nathan Drake, supposed descendant of the explorer Sir Francis Drake, seeks the lost treasure of El Dorado with the help of his friend Victor “Sully” Sullivan and journalist Elena Fisher.

Mark Wahlberg, who recently spoke with MTV and confirmed that he has been cast in the lead role of Nathan Drake in the film, and he also had some things to say about the adaptation, and writer-director, David O. Russell:

“David is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with. The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie
this summer.”

Wahlberg also confirmed that Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci were sought for roles in the movie, and had this to say about the roles they would play if they joined the cast:

“I’m obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It’s not going to be the watered-down version, that’s for sure.”

Both De Niro and Pesci are reportedly in talks but have not signed on to the cast as of yet.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is slated to hit theaters in 2012.
