Two Guns: Baltasar Kormákur to Direct Wahlberg In Comic Book Adaptation

Back in January, we told you that director David O. Russell (The Fighter) was in talks to re-write and direct the adaptation of Steven Grant and Mat Santolouco‘s Boom! Studios comic series, Two Guns.

Universal Pictures picked up the project back in 2008 as a vehicle for Vince Vaughn (The Dilemma), who was reportedly attached to star in the film. Then, Just two months ago, we brought you a report when Mark Wahlberg (Contraband) began negotiations to take one of the two lead roles in the big-screen adaptation, presumably alongside Vince Vaughn (Lay the Favorite).

David O. Russell has in fact written the current draft of the screenplay, but will reportedly not be at the helm of the project. Variety reports that Wahlberg’s Icelandic Contraband director, Baltasar Kormákur (Djúpið) is currently in negotiations with Universal Pictures to direct the project.

Boom! Studios Synopsis for 2 Guns:

A pulp story about cops and thieves and the men that are something in between. Trench has targeted a local bank to rob, and asked Steadman in on the job. Trench figures it’s a great way to score — considering it’s a cover for mob money. They’ll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesn’t know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesn’t know is that Steadman’s a Naval Intelligence officer. They’re both cops! And neither one knows that they’re not robbing the mob, they’ve been set up to steal $50 million from the CIA! A light-hearted crime romp in the vein of Ocean’s Thirteen and The Italian Job from comics legend, Steven Grant!

2 Guns is slated to hit theaters in 2013.
