Series Summary:
Eureka seems like any other cozy, Pacific Northwest town, but is actually a secret community of geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research. What they’ve unwittingly created is a place where anything imaginable can happen … and does. Eureka stars Colin Ferguson (Sheriff Jack Carter) Salli Richardson-Whitfield (Allison Blake), Joe Morton (Henry Deacon), Erica Cerra (Jo Lupo), Neil Grayston (Douglas Fargo) and Niall Matter (Zane Donovan). Co-creator Jaime Paglia and Bruce Miller are executive producers. The series is produced and distributed by Universal Cable Productions.

It’s lovely. Pure classic Eureka, start to finish, and appropriate for the whole family. It’s like a little present to all of the fans, for people who enjoyed watching this series with their kids, and for all of those who have enjoyed visiting this lovely, quirky town full of interesting, brilliant, science-y people with their unusual troubles and their less-smart sheriff who saved them on a weekly basis.

If you’re concerned that this series finale will continue the dark tones of the last run of episodes, don’t be. Remember, when the series was canceled rather suddenly, there was a big push for them to be allowed one more episode to give to the fans, to make for a neater closure. This is that. I, for one, adored the darker tone, but for better or worse, that wasn’t what most people had come to expect from this show. Instead, this episode is tailor made for those who prefer their Eureka on the lighter side, silliness intact.

It does, however, recognize that the end is coming. If you saw last week’s episode, you know that the town is being shut down by the government. This gives everyone a chance to say goodbyes, and discuss moving on, give a tip o’ the hat to the fans protesting the cancelation by the powers that be, and bring in a couple of characters that we haven’t seen in a while – even Lojack! And believe it or not, the obligatory farewell music montage (I hate music montages) is terrific. But what would the show be without some weird thing going on, and the chance for them to work together to solve the problem, and get Jack to save the day? We’re given that, too.

But what about me? Okay, what about people like me who have watched this series from the beginning and loved the edge of Season 1 and always kinda missed it? We are given our own special little present at the end. That moment right there bumps this episode up to the top status.

This is Eureka at its coziest. It’s a giant geeky farewell hug.

I give Eureka: Season 5, Episode 13 Five Out of Five Stars.
