TRUE BLOOD: Hunky Hairy Werewolf, New Waitress, And Steamy Comic Books

Fangbangers, our first look at Alcide is here! While we’re waiting for season three of HBO’s “True Blood” to begin, here are some sexy goodies for you to bide your time. As for Alcide, played by Joe Manganiello (“One Tree Hill”), he and telepathic waitress Sookie (Anna Paquin) heat up the screen this next season as Alcide “helps” Sookie search for her vampire boyfriend, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). Here’s our first look at him with Sookie:

Executive producer, Alan Ball explains how this relationship evolves:

“There is definitely some [sexual] energy between the two of them. It’s not like either one of them is looking for romance, but they’re thrown into several intense situations [and] it’s hard not to bond on a deeper level.”

Of course, these days, werewolves must be absolutely ripped and Manganiello does not disappoint. Ball has a man-crush of sorts on Alcide:

“The first shirtless scene [Joe] had I was like, “Who has those abs? He’s in crazy peak physical condition. He’s eating nothing but pure protein. And of course, this being True Blood, he’s already shot his first naked scene. Hello, werewolves when they shift — no clothes!”

The new waitress to join the Merlotte’s eye candy staff is Lauren Bowles (“Watching Ellie, Seinfeld, The New Adventures of Old Christine”) as a recurring role of Holly, an “oddly prescient single mom who gets hired as a waitress at Sam’s watering hole.” Bowles will appear midway through this next season.

HBO is partnering up with IDW Publishing to create a “True Blood” comic book series with a debut date of San Diego Comic Con in July. From this video message from Alan Ball, it sounds like they are going to be making full use of their creative freedom with the comic book media. Fans should be able to enjoy both the show and the comics as separate storylines.

Message from Alan Ball about “True Blood”, the comic

Ball believes that these comics will enrich the world of “True Blood”:

“I am very excited to be introducing the True Blood comic book series. These graphic novels are a great companion to the series and we are pleased that the popularity of the show is allowing it to branch out into different mediums.”

The first six issue release of the series promises to maintain the sexy and smart writing the show is known for. David Messina illustrated this first run with J. Scott Campbell doing the covers. “True Blood #1” will contain thirty-two pages of full color Bon Temps, where Sookie and company “find themselves waiting in Merlotte’s bar for a strangely portentous raging storm to subside.  Soon, they discover they’ve been trapped by an entity that feeds off of raw emotions and begins killing off the patrons one by one until his hunger is sated.” Each issue will run $3.99 and hit stores in July.

“True Blood” premieres on HBO with its third season on June 13th.

[The Shake Down]

All I gotta say is where is the comic chronicling Eric Northman’s undead life? How about one Eric comic with Eric 24/7? Seriously, talk about a comic that chicks will dig!
