He’s been a demon in Supernatural, he plays Jack the Ripper AND Big Foot in Sanctuary, and an ancient vampire in the Twilight movie series. That last one will come in handy, as Christopher Heyerdahl has been cast as … an ancient vampire in the upcoming season of True Blood.

We told you last month that showrunner Alan Ball has teased that in season five “we’re really going to find out what the Vampire Authority is all about.” Deadline broke the news that Heyerdahl will play Dieter Braun, an ancient and powerful vampire who is part of that Vampire Authority and who particularly enjoys “enhanced interrogation.” Biggie aside, Heyerdahl is so very good at playing chillingly terrifying nasties. Excellent.

He joins Christopher Meloni, Valentina Cervi, and Lucy Griffiths as new-to-us vamps joining – or not, as the case may be – our pals in Bon Temps.

True Blood, starring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and Alexander Skarsgard, returns for season five in 2012 on HBO.
