True Blood Casting News and the Showrunner’s Thoughts on Future Seasons

True Blood has been simply gushing with news lately, and now it’s even gone as far as to talk about the season four finale, when the fourth season doesn’t even start until Sunday. Don’t worry, no real spoilers here, just a casting note.

He’ll fit right in when he comes to visit Bon Temps, because he’s as gorgeous as everyone else. Yes it’s Scott Foley (Grey’s Anatomy) and he is confirmed to appear in the season 4 finale.

True Blood creator Alan Ball reportedly told THR that he is currently in negotiations with HBO about season 5, though most presume it’s a given, and if there is a season 5 then Mr. Foley will be back for that as well.

If you’re a Grey’s fan, don’t worry, apparently the shooting schedules for the two shows will not overlap, according to TVLine.

After that presumed season 5, however, if the show goes on it may go one without its first showrunner.  Alan Ball said “I don’t know if I have any left in me after that. We’ll see,” though he could see the show continuing for a few more seasons. He told THR:

“I think if we did 13 seasons we’d have to address why vampires are aging,” Ball joked. “Maybe there would be a bad batch of Tru Blood. … With the supernatural thing you can always go places storywise that you couldn’t go on another show.”

Another bit of casting has just been announced, though, for earlier in season 4. Katherine Helmond (Soap, Time Bandits, Who’s the Boss, Everybody Loves Raymond) will reportedly be making appearances in two episodes as Caroline Bellefleur, Sheriff Andy’s and Portia’s grandmother, according to True-Blood.net. She’s wonderful, and should be formidable in the part of matriarch.

And just in case you forgot…

True Blood returns to HBO for Season 4 on Sunday, June 26 at 9/8c.
