TRON LEGACY: Global Scavenger Hunt, Puzzle Solving, A New Image, And A TRON IMAX Event This Saturday

Less than a week ago, a few people received packages from the Flynn Lives campaign for Walt Disney Pictures’ TRON LEGACY. Inside was an object (below) that you’re likely familiar with if you’ve seen the original TRON, it’s BIT! The box also contained a note which read “/ZeroHour”.

People quickly discovered a new website, located at FlynnLives.com/ZeroHour. The site contained a binary clock (below) that was counting down using BIT as it’s notation symbol, and shortly thereafter, it was determined that the countdown was scheduled to end at 8:00am Pacific Time this morning.

Just a few days later, a few pixels started to show up underneath the clock, which slowly materialized into a list of 25 different cities (below).

The 25 cities listed were – Sydney, Denver, Madrid, Paris, Boston, Washington DC, Orlando, Atlanta, Raleigh, San Diego, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, Austin, Minneapolis, Nashville, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and London.

At the end of the countdown, the binary clock became click-able and brought you to a page that was the start of a global scavenger hunt. A note on the site stated:

“We are deploying envoys to 27 locations around the world and we need you to meet up with the Flynn Lives contact in your area. Check the link below to find out when and where this rendezvous will take place. Then, get ready to hit the streets.”

When you then clicked on your city’s name, it gave you the name and address of a particular location (most of which were arcades) and directions to seek out a lone person at that location, wearing a Flynn Lives t-shirt and supply them with a password that was located on the page with the location data.

The envoy would then hand people a mobile phone with a number to call immediately, they then spoke with someone who guided them to another nearby location to find a hidden package which contained a very 1980’s style TRON velcro wallet. The wallets contained newspaper clippings, some nifty 1980 vintage Tron trading cards, Flynn’s Arcade tokens, and codes to enter into the /zerohour website.

Each of the vintage trading cards also included a code which was entered into the site and made you able to flip the tiles in the grid to expose an image underneath.

Once all of the codes were entered and the image was revealed, you were then able to click a BIT icon below it that took you to the Pitcell.com, which displays the page seen below.

The Pit Cell site doesn’t reveal what will be shown in the IMAX theaters listed, but I think it’s safe to assume that it’s either an exclusive clip, or a first look at a new trailer. Check out the list of locations below and head over to PitCell.com for more info.

New York

So, for all of the effort that people went to across the globe in those 25 different cities… a small percentage of them will be rewarded at one of the IMAX theaters listed. (A shame really, they should have held the IMAX event at, or near all of the cities that participated?)

Swag pics thanks to Miss Selector. You can read about her quest as a field operative in Paris over on her blog
