Tonight’s FACE OFF Features Elvira Challenge, Followed by FANGASM Premiere

Tonight’s Foundation (quick and first) Challenge on this Vets vs Rookies season of Face Off is to create a new version of Elvira, with – no pressure here – the actual Elvira as the judge. The Spotlight (main) Challenge appeals to my art history-filled nerdy heart; they must create characters that could live within iconic art movements like surrealism, cubism, and expressionism:

One of the things I love about Face Off, and the reason it is the only competition show I watch, is because the contestants are talented, they make amazing creations, they are mutually supportive, and they aren’t expected to act any certain way, so they are as natural as one can be in a competition that is under constant camera watch. Though they all stay in the same house during the competition, we see almost none of that. You may have guessed from this that “reality” shows are mostly not my cup of coffee.

If you, however, love reality shows, particularly the slice-of-life type that examine a person or group of people, definitely check out tonight’s premiere of Fangasm:

The series introduces seven fanboys and fangirls who live and breathe all things science fiction, comic books, collectibles, cosplay, life-action role playing games and pop culture. The tight-knit gorup of big bangers spend the summer living together in Los Angeles and working at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo – the comic, gaming, anime, sci-fi, fantasy forror and general pop-culture expo held each November in Los Angeles.
