Earlier this month, actress Hayley Atwell (The Duchess) who is playing Peggy Carter in the Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) directed Captain America: The First Avenger leaked that Oscar winning actor Tommy Lee Jones would be appearing in upcoming film.

Now, Marvel Studios has officially announced that Tommy Lee Jones (Men In Black III) has in-fact been cast to star as US Army Colonel Chester Phillips opposite Ms. Atwell, Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Neal McDonough, Stanley Tucci and Hugo Weaving. In the comics, Colonel Phillips was the man who recruited Steve Rogers to join Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that created the Super Soldier known as Captain America. The character will reportedly be revamped for the film.

Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters on July 22, 2011.
