Tim Burton Taps Ed Wood Writers For The Addams Family

Back in March we told you that Tim Burton was set to create a new stop-motion, 3D adaptation of The Addams Family. The film will be based on the original cartoons by Charles Addams, which appeared in The New Yorker from 1938 to 1988 and have absolutely nothing to do with the 1960s TV series or the 1990s films.

Now, Tim Burton (Frankenweenie, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) will reportedly join forces with his Ed Wood screenwriters Scott Alexander (Big Eyes) and Larry Karaszewski (1408) for his upcoming big-screen take on The Addams Family.

Deadline reports that Alexander and Karaszewski will write the film that Burton will direct, with Christopher Meledandri (Despicable Me) producing alongside Burton.

Karaszewski said,

“The retrospective in New York of Tim’s own artwork showed how much of an influence Charles Addams was to him. We want the tone to be as darkly funny and subversive as the Addams drawings, and we’ve come up with an approach that nobody has ever done before.”

The Addams Family comes to theaters in 2014
