The Walking Dead Offers Up Two New Posters for Your Analysis

We have a couple of new posters from AMC‘s The Walking Dead for you to check out, that are extremely close to or incorporate pictures we’ve already shown you. Of course, we can’t help but pick it apart for any indicators of what’s to come in Season 3, which premieres on October 14.

First, for comparison, here’s the banner from Comic-Con:

And here’s the new Season 3 cast poster. Bearing in mind that the poses and placement may have come entirely from the promotional department and may have absolutely nothing to do with what’s to come in Season 3 (Losties, remember the hours spent analyzing the Last Supper poster from the last season of Lost?), take a look at this:

It incorporates a slightly different pose by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) than we saw in the Comic-Con poster, but it looks like it’s from the same photo shoot. He’s front and center, appropriate for the dawn of the Ricktatorship that we have been told is to come.

Next closest is Darryl (Norman Reedus) – will he now be second in command, since Shane is double-dead? Physically closest after that is Andrea (Laurie Holden), who may prove to be next strongest of the cast members we’ve known since the beginning.

It’s a little hard to tell for sure, but it appears that Michonne (Danai Gurira) might be next closest to the front, and her power has already been proven, in the Season 2 finale. Next to her is the Governor (David Morrissey), and we understand he’s supposed to be formidable, but for now he’s looking… do we call that “neutral”?

Next we have Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) and Carl (Chandler Riggs) – look, Carl’s right where he’s supposed to be! But he’s looking tough. And armed! Lori looks nicely confident with her arms crossed, as if she’s saying “Yes, I do know where Carl is!”

Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) are a couple, and are presented as such. Good.  Then we have Hershel (Scott Wilson) and his daughter Beth (Emily Kinney) who looks strikingly like double-dead Amy, Andrea’s sister, and finally, of course, comes Carol (Melissa McBride) and T-Dog (IronE Singleton). This just makes me sad. I am still holding out hope that more will done with T-Dog in the upcoming season, but this poster is not encouraging.

Finally, it looks like everyone is armed, thank goodness; I love the idea of a more aggressive season. The only two that might be unarmed are Lori and Beth. Are their weapons hidden, or is that also an indicator?

The other poster we have is one that was partially incorporated in the Comic-Con banner as well, and it is of Michonne in what is quickly becoming her iconic pose, sword raised and ready. It is fierce.

Fierce, and, well, gross. Looking forward, I think, to seeing how exactly she uses those walkers.
