The Wait Continues For ‘Thundercats’ Film; 1st Look At Concept Art

The proposed “Thundercats” feature film has hit another round of delays.  Warner Bros has put the project back on the shelf for the time being.  You’d think with the success of other 80’s cartoon reboots to modern movies, they would be fast tracking “Thundercats”, but this is not the case.

Newly released are four pieces of concept art from the totally CGI film that show the art direction and visual potential of the film.  From top to bottom: Lion-O, The Pyramid, Third Earth and Mutant Attack. (click on the images to embiggen)

“Thundercats” was to be directed by Jerry O’Flaherty who had also art directed video games such as “Gears of War” and “Command and Conquer: Renegade”.  Paul Sopocy was to write the script that follows Lion-O origin from cub to his anointment as Lord of the Thundercat”.

“Thundercats” was intended to be due out in 2010, but this delay will undoubtedly push the timetable back.  Perhaps they need more encouragement that there is a fan-base for “Thundercats”?

Can you say it with me? “Thunder,… thunder,… thunder,… thundercats!! HOOOOO!!!!!!”

In the meantime, we’ll have to do with this fantastic piece of fan-made movie trailer:

And a refresher on the “Thundercats” animated series introduction:
