THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Showrunner is Creating a BUFFY Meets X-FILES Companion Series

Kevin Williamson, co-creator and executive producer of the CW’s The Vampire Diaries, is writing a companion series to the hit vampire drama. This yet untitled, one-hour drama for Warner Bros. TV is described as Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets the X-Files and follows “a group of researchers who investigate paranormal happenings.”

Williamson’s partner in crime, Julie Plec, also co-creator and executive producer for The Vampire Diaries is rumored to also be in talks with WB TV to pitch in on this project.

Whether or not the pilot for said project will be ready for the CW’s 2011-2012 season is yet to be seen. Early word on the project does not point to characters crossing over from this show to The Vampire Diaries.

What do you think, Salvatore groupies? Will you nibble at this show? The premise nearly sounds like Supernatural’s Ghost Facers, does it not?
