Last Friday, the season finale of the CW’s “Smallville” teased viewers with a peek into Superman’s future, containing a Sarah Palin-like Lois Lane (Erica Durance), Perry White (Michael McKean) as Editor of the Daily Planet, Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum whose character may not be dead after all) running for President, and … wait for it… a tiny glimpse of Superman flying!
For nine seasons of this television adaptation of the origin of Superman, Clark Kent (Tom Welling) has not flown. Hovered? Yes. Took giant leaps? Yes, but flown? Not yet. After this glimpse into the future (or was it just a dream?), Clark awakes to find a gift from Martha Kent. One that gets fans hopes up for the tenth season of “Smallville” and a flying Superman. show creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have stuck to their “no tights, no flights” rule for these last nine seasons. Could this herald the emergence of flight in Supes? Check out this hope-inspiring scene from “Salvation”, the season finale of “Smallville” and two screen caps showing the reflections that point to a flying Superman in our near future.

“Salvation” drew in a crowd of at least 2.45 million viewers for the CW on last Friday night. The ratings should be even stronger once the DVR numbers come in.
