The Munsters May Return From the Dead After All

We reported back in October 2010 that Bryan Fuller, creator of wonders like Pushing Daisies and Dead Like Me, was working on a reboot of Sixties horror sitcom The Munsters for NBC. There was even talk that Guillermo del Toro (Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark) would be involved in some capacity.

Although NBC eventually passed on that script, TV Guide is now reporting that talks of revisiting the idea have been taking place between Mr. Fuller and NBC executives. This reboot is said to be edgier and darker than the original sitcom, and may even delve into the Munsters’ origin stories. There will still be humor, and all of the original characters – Herman, Lily, Grandpa, Marilyn, and Eddie – are expected to be included in the updated version.

The original series The Munsters ran from 1964-1966 and starred Fred Gwynne, Yvonne De Carlo, Al Lewis, Pat Priest, and Butch Patrick.

We can’t help but wonder – with NBC moving forward with both The Munsters and a Frankenstein treatment, will we be lucky enough to get both?
