Universal Pictures‘ animated film Despicable Me has crushed the sparkly vampires of Twilight by debuting at the top of the US box office. The CG animated film, starring Steve Carrell as Gru, a super-villain who spends his times stealing world monuments and is currently perfecting his plan to steal the moon has earned an estimated $60.1 million over the weekend.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse slipped to second place with $33 million, while the Robert Rodriguez produced Predators debuted at number three with $25 million, followed by Toy Story 3 and The Last Airbender.
