The Killing’s Joel Kinnaman May Be Our New ROBOCOP

Last fall, we brought you a couple of interviews with director José Padilha (Elite Squad, Elite Squad 2) who is set to helm the theatrical return of Robocop. Padilha spoke about how his version of the story will differ from the original, as well as hinting at possible redesigns for the character and his vision of RoboCop.

Now, thanks to Deadline we may know who will take the role made famous by Peter Weller in Paul Verhoeven’s original RoboCop. MGM is reportedly making an offer to Joel Kinnaman (The Darkest Hour) to play the title role.

Kinnaman can currently be seen in theaters opposite Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington in Safe House, and opposite Mireille Enos and Billy Campbell on the AMC series The Killing.

RoboCop is slated to hit theaters in 2013.
