The Hunger Games: New Image of a Bow Wielding Katniss Everdeen

Lionsgate has released a new image of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen wielding her trademark bow and arrow in director Gary Ross‘ (Pleasantville) big-screen adaptation of the first novel in Suzanne Collins’ best selling trilogy, The Hunger Games.

The image comes to us from Business Insider who also spoke with Lionsgate studio Co-chairman and CEO Jon Feltheimer and the studio’s vice chairman Michael Burns.

Feltheimer said of The Hunger Games,

“Hey, we’ve got something really special here”

Praising Jennifer Lawrence, Burns said,

“She looks like she could start a revolution”

Feltheimer spoke about the potential for a Hunger Games franchise,

“The Hunger Games must hit $100 million in domestic box office sales to justify making sequels. I’m not too concerned we won’t get to that kind of number”, “We would be disappointed if we didn’t make three or four movies”.

Synopsis:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The Hunger Games is slated to hit theaters on March 23rd, 2012.
