The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Adds Maria Howell to the Victor’s Alliance

The casting announcements continue on at a rapid fire pace this week for Lionsgate’s production of the second installment of The Hunger Games films. Yesterday, we told you about E. Roger Mitchell (One Tree Hill, Battle Los Angeles) being cast as Chaff, a one-handed former victor of the Hunger Games in Catching Fire.

Now, TheWrap reports that Maria Howell (Revolution, The Vampire Diaries) has been cast as Seeder, another former victor of the Hunger Games from District 11 reaped again for the Quarter Quell. Seeder is described as being in her sixties but strong. She is one of the Victor’s alliance that strives to keep Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) alive for the rebellion effort against the Capitol.

Synopsis:

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

This installment will be directed by Francis Lawrence and is slated to hit theaters on November 22nd, 2013.
