The fate of ABC’s supernatural summer series, The Gates, is still uncertain at this point. Actor Frank Grillo (Breakout Kings, My Soul To Take), who plays The Gates’ Police Chief Nick Monohan (the human trying to keep order in an exclusive gated community housing a variety of supernaturals among its residents), tweeted that what he’s been hearing isn’t pointing towards a renewal of the series:
“I’m told from a friend at ABC that The Gates are closing. No season 2 Still unofficial but that’s the latest.
“Its Unofficial still and at the end of the day who the hell really knows. We shall see.”
The series premiere won its time slot in the adult demographic in June with about 4.64 million total viewers. The Gates was the strongest summer scripted premiere for the network in the last five years and was the highest rated program in unique views online for that month.
Unfortunately, the show was not able to retain such numbers in viewership. The impressive start was followed by a drop off of viewers as season one continued through the summer. By mid-July, ratings had dropped to just under 3 million total viewers, placing last in its time slot. In September, ratings dropped to a series low of just over 2 million total viewers.
The two-hour season finale saw an uptick to 2.84 million viewers tuning in, but was it enough? Do you want to see The Gates return next summer?
