The Dark Knight Rises: Gary Oldman Talks About Catwoman, A Secret Villain and the Story

Earlier this month, Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs) revealed that she would not only be portraying Selina Kyle, but also Kyle’s alter ego, Catwoman in director Christopher Nolan‘s forthcoming, final entry in his Bat-Trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.

Gary Oldman, who has portrayed Lieutenant James Gordon in Batman Begins and then received a promotion, and became Commissioner Jim Gordon in The Dark Knight recently spoke with Flicks and Bits and had this to say about heading back to Gotham to put on Gordon’s clothes:

“My drab greys and beiges (laughs). I went to the production offices the other day and there’s all these fantastic pictures across the wall, Catwoman, this, that, and I thought where’s my wall? I don’t have a wall, I just have a rack of very very dull clothes (laughs). I’m looking forward to working with the gang again, Academy Award winning Christian Bale, I bet he won’t get my coffee anymore (laughs).”

While speaking with E! about Hathaway’s turn as Gotham’s favorite feline, Oldman said,

“I think she’ll probably wear the cat suit pretty well, don’t you?”

Yes Gary... yes I do!

During that same interview, Oldman said that there is going to be a vintage Batman villain in The Dark Knight Rises that hasn’t been mentioned yet:

“I think it’s a villain from one of the old, old, from way back from the old comics. It is a Batman villian…It’s not going to be the Joker. If I told you who the villain was, they’d kill me.”

Oldman also had this to say to MTV about the story in The Dark Knight Rises:

“I haven’t seen the script yet. I know the story though and it’s a great story. I mean, you look at The Dark Knight and you think how’s [director Christopher Nolan] gonna top it? But I think he has.”

“It’s the scope of it and the way he sort of brings it back to Batman Begins. And really what Bruce Wayne discovers about himself and what he learns about himself by the end of this one.”

Christopher Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Goyer will also produce the film with Charles Roven and Nolan’s longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas.

The Dark Knight Rises is slated to hit theaters on July 20th, 2012.
