The Dark Knight Rises: Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman Costume More True to the Comics, Will Include Goggles

Back in January, Warner Bros. Pictures officially announced that Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs) had been cast as Selina Kyle in director Christopher Nolan‘s forthcoming, final entry in his Bat-Trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises. When she was initially cast, the studio had only referenced the name Selina Kyle, leading to massive fan disappointment that we may not actually see Catwoman in costume.

Later, Hathaway confirmed that we would see her as Catwoman, and co-star Gary Oldman made comments in an interview about Hathaway’s cool costume designs, as opposed to his bevy or earth-tone clothing as Commissioner Gordon. While fans (myself included) breathed a sigh of relief that we would see Ms. Hathaway in the Catsuit, the question remained… what would Nolan’s interpretation of the costume look like?

Now, a source close to the costume design has told Hollywood Life that Hathaway’s costume closely resembles what she wears in the comics, as opposed to the stitched up pvc we saw Michelle Pfeiffer wear in the Tim Burton directed Batman Returns.

“Anne’s outfit is more tactical, like the comic book, than the previous Batman movies. She will definitely be wearing the goggles and it’s going to be less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costumes. She’s going to look more like a robber.”

They also decided to set everyone’s mind at ease on the level of sexiness:

“But fan boys shouldn’t be worried. This costume is going to be form-fitting enough to make Anne look smoking hot. Everything from the looks in her eyes, her head movements, her body–everything is so feline. The role is taking her to new places.”

The Dark Knight Rises is slated to hit theaters on July 20th, 2012.
