The Avengers: Set Video and Pics of Cap and Thor Fighting, Plus Interviews and Details On New Footage Shown at D23

Last week, we brought you some behind the scenes video and pictures from the Cleveland, Ohio set of director Joss Whedon’s forthcoming Marvel Studios film, The Avengers. This week, we get a look at even more video and pictures from the set, along with video interviews from Disney’s D23 Expo with some of the cast members and Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige.

First, to whet your appetite… how about a crashed spacecraft?

The videos and images below give you a look at Thor and Captain America teaming up against their foes on the streets of Cleveland (portraying NY City). The second video is particularly cool, simply because it shows Thor knocking a car over with his Mjolnir!

Look, I’m usually a pretty calm, cool and collected fanboy and do a fairly decent job of containing myself, but this time the 7 year-old me is taking over, so… “SQUEEE!!!”. Seeing the videos above, and the images below of Thor and Cap fighting side-by-side is just awesome and gave me a sense of “Oh my God, they’re really making this!”

EW filed a report describing the footage from The Avengers that was revealed at D23. Check out the description of the two scenes below!

The first scene starts with villain Loki (Tom Hiddleston) encased in a cylindrical glass prison cell aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. He faces off against Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

“You try to escape you so much as scratch that glass …” Fury says, throwing a switch that opens a gaping vortex into a gray rainstorm. “30,000 feet, straight down in a steel trap.”

Loki smiles. “It’s an impressive cage, but not built for me.”

“Built for something a lot stronger than you,” Fury snaps back.

Cut to Cobie Smulders‘ Agent Maria Hill watching the exchange on a monitor. The cage is meant for Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) when he Hulks out and needs a time-out.

Loki seems to know all about this, and smirks: “How desperate are you, to call on such lost creatures to defend you?”

“How desperate am I?” Fury growls. “You threaten my world with war. You steel a force you can’t control. You talk about peace, but you kill because its fun…”

Loki is unaffected. “It burns you to be so close,” he says. “To have the tesseract (that cosmic cube from Odin’s court that was the source of all the fighting in Captain America). To have power. And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share.”

Loki’s smile fades: “Allow me to remind you of what real power is.”

Fury waves him off and descends some steel steps, leaving Loki alone in the empty chamber. “Well, let me know if ‘Real Power’ wants a magazine or something.”

Loki glowers at a camera monitoring him, and the movie cuts to Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. “He really grows on you doesn’t he?”

The second scene shown was described as follows:

“A conversation between Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston), apparently… in Stark’s private bar? In any case, Tony’s having a drink.

“Let’s do a head count,” Stark says, as the camera cuts to shots of Renner and Johansson as Hawkeye and Black Widow. “Two world class assassins …”

Cut to Thor: “A demigod …”

Cut to Captain America: “A living legend who actually lives up to the legend …”

Now we’re back with Loki and Stark: “And you, big fella!” Stark says. “You’ve managed to piss off every single one of them!”

“I have an army,” Loki snarls.

Stark gets right in the villainous god’s face. “We have a Hulk.”

To round out this Avengerganza…err, Extravavenger… lets just say all this crap from The Avengers –  The peeps over at the tv show Access Hollywood stopped RDJ and Hemsworth on the carpet at D23 and got them talking about the pic from the action scene in Cleveland that we showed you the other day, and about who has the best costume.
