Back in June we learned that Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) was cast as Hawkeye in the upcoming big-screen incarnation of The Avengers to be directed by Joss Whedon (Serenity, Firefly) for Marvel Studios.
Now, speaking with MTV, Jeremy Renner addressed the Hawkeye costume and hinted at a relationship between Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow.
About the costume – Renner said,
“I think it’s going to be a little more reality-based. You can kind of tell with Scarlett Johansson’s character [in Iron Man 2], it’s going to be more of a uniform… and not a big purple, comics sort of thing.”
Renner indicated that they are straying from the classic costume in order to connect with mainstream audiences.
“That’s why I think it’s more palatable to audiences – there’s almost a sense of reality to these superheroes. That’s what makes it interesting to me, anyway.”
About Hawkeye’s possible relationship with Black Widow – Renner said,
“We will [have a relationship], I think, in this one as well. We’re kind of a team, and what that relationship is, is still to be discovered.”
The Avengers is slated to hit theaters on May 4th, 2012
