Back in October, Rhys Ifans (Anonymous) signed on to play the villain, opposite Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone (Easy A, Zombieland) as Gwen Stacy, in director Marc Webb‘s as yet Untitled Spider-Man Reboot.
Within the press release from Sony/Columbia Pictures they stated that “The filmmakers prefer to not reveal which character Ifans will be playing in the forthcoming film.” Shortly thereafter, two sources close to the production said that the main villain, played by Ifans would be The Lizard. Their story has never been confirmed by Sony/Columbia Pictures, who wanted to keep those details under wraps.
Luckily, some people just can’t help themselves from dropping details on their latest movies and this time, that would be actor C. Thomas Howell. The actor recently appeared on The Retroradio Podcast, and confirmed that the Lizard will in fact do battle with Spidey, and that his character’s son gets caught up in the turmoil.
Here is what the actor had to say about his character and taking part in one of The Amazing Spider-Man‘s most important scenes.
“There is not a whole lot to talk about. Sony wants us to be hush-hush right now. I play a relatively small role. I play a construction worker who’s son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man on the Manhattan bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back from this perilous situation. There is some payback there at the end of the movie. Spider-man is kind of hurting. I help him when all of the other people won’t. Part of the story is, the nation thinks he might be a bad guy. They don’t know what to think. Because of my experience on the bridge with my kid, I know he is a good guy. I pitch in and help out at the end. That is the best way.”
