Teen Titans Revamp Is DC’s First Creative Casualty, Dark Days Ahead for Teen Supers

I’m generally trying to maintain a positive outlook on the whole DC ret-con that is coming up.  Even for a company that makes great and admirable strides to maintain some form of continuity, we eventually find ourselves bogged down in so many shifting story lines at once that it’s hard to keep them all straight. And in all honesty the stuff I’ve seen about the reboot thus far hasn’t been all that bad. I’m pretty excited about a lot of these #1’s.

But I can’t say I’m a fan with what is going on with the Teen Titans in the reboot. Here is a sneak peek and description of Teen Titans #1 which hits in September.

Tim Drake is forced to step out from behind his keyboard when an international organization seeks to capture or kill super-powered teenagers. As Red Robin, he must team up with the mysterious and belligerent powerhouse thief known as Wonder Girl and a hyperactive speedster calling himself Kid Flash in TEEN TITANS #1, by Scott Lobdell and artists Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund.

Okay…WHAT is going on with those costumes? It looks like something Rob Liefeld would have done in the 90’s. Wonder Girl looks kinda cool in the upper left, but Superboy looks like he should be sitting in a dark room, cursing the establishment and listening to the Sex Pistols. And while he pretty much lacks any sort of creative direction on his look, Red Robin and Kid Flash are over-stylized.  What do you think of the new Teen Titans? Cos, I ain’t impressed.
