SyFy Gives Fans A Chance To Write Their Own Creature Feature

The SyFy network is giving fans a unique chance to collaboratively contribute to a Saturday night creature feature film. Fans can “write and design every aspect” of an upcoming SyFy film through a production site called B Movie Mogul “where fans can vote and pitch ideas for the film, from title, creatures, wardrobe, dialogue, and character deaths to promotional taglines.”

The fan-generated “script” will be made into a two-hour SyFy original movie for release in 2011.  Executive Vice President of Programming and Original Movies, Thomas Vitale, talks about this opportunity:

“We constantly have fans e-mailing with compliments, complaints and questions about our movies, and this is a way of involving the fans in a new way. This is where entertainment is going and just the start of many more things of this nature for Syfy.”

Look for the site to come online this Friday. SyFy will be partnering with IGN for the project. The first step is for fans to vote on a concept for the film: a 2010 apocalypse story, a Bermuda Triangle-set creature feature or a Roswell, N.M.-set alien movie.

So, will fans be able to create a movie of better quality than what SyFy has been putting out? Vitale seems to think so:

“When you have a lot of people working on something, good ideas will come out of it. We will have something that will be entertaining.”
