SyFy Fridays Gets Smacked To Tuesdays

Be prepared to adjust your SyFy drama viewing schedule. SyFy Fridays will be moving to Tuesdays as the network has inked a multiyear deal with the World Wrestling Entertainment’s “Friday Night SmackDown”. The move will aid ratings for SyFy’s Friday night dramas like “Caprica” and “Stargate Universe” according to Dave Howe, programming president for SyFy. Howe adds:

“WWE is the ultimate in imagination-based sports entertainment. The fantastical thrills of ‘Friday Night SmackDown’ provide an ideal addition to the Syfy slate, as it targets the younger male and female demographics, which are the fastest-growing categories for WWE.”

Statistically, WWE shows like “SmackDown” are rating hounds, logging around 3.4 million viewers per week with strong scores in the male demographic between the ages of 18-34.

My reaction to SyFy’s decision to let the WWE determine its scheduling line-up? One BIG *facepalm*. What next? SyFy to pick up Nascar? (No offense to Nascar fans or Ben Browder‘s (“Farscape”, “SG-1”) family who own and operate a Nascar Busch series racecar.)
