Just last week, we brought you a rumor that director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Sucker Punch) wanted British actor Matthew Goode (Burning Man) to play mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent in the Superman reboot. It was also rumored that Snyder had plans to rely heavily on CGI to represent The Man of Steel himself, similar to what they have done with Green Lantern.
Now, the folks over at iesb have thrown their debunking hat into the ring on both counts and say:
“certain studio execs that had the idea of making Superman a CGI character ala Doctor Manhattan. Some others thought the idea would be best if his costume alone was CGI.
“Speaking with an FX pro that is currently working on Green Lantern, he has mentioned that some test shots of what a CGI Superman suit would look like have already been done. While he thinks it’s possible to get a cool look, there is no reason to go that direction and he is not the only one to feel that way.
According to a few different sources scattered through the industry, both Chris Nolan and Zack Snyder are not to thrilled to give Supes a CGI suit. “No reason or need for it”.
And about that Matthew Goode casting rumor:
“Not gonna happen. As it’s been reported, expect an unknown.”
As for new rumors, whatsplaying is claiming that Anne Hathaway (Alice In Wonderland, Love and Other Drugs) is a contender for the role of Lois Lane.
The site has also reportedly gotten a hold of a character breakdown issued to casting agencies for the film, and the brief synopsis indicates that Clark Kent is “a young journalist, traveling for the globe, who would rather solve problems and help people without resorting to using his special powers. When he is compelled to use his secret powers to intervene in a crisis in West Africa, Clark returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and the hero he was born to be“.
Superman (a.k.a. Superman: Man of Steel) is slated to hit theaters in 2012.
