‘Super Max’ Still In Development And Getting A New Writer

It’s been almost a full year since we last heard anything about David Goyer’s supervillain prison film, “Super Max.” Initially conceived as a story that puts DC hero Green Arrow on the wrong side of prison bars and needing to plan an escape with the help of some of the publisher’s most famous rogues, updates have been few and far between since buzz died down last year.

However, with a script that potentially includes cameos from the likes of Lex Luthor, The Riddler and The Joker, it’s no surprise that the project’s status became a topic of conversation during our recent chat with Goyer.

“We’re working on that. We’re about to bring on another writer,” Goyer told MTV News. “Obviously, Warner Bros. is now heavily into mining all of the various DC properties.”

Last we checked, Hollywood’s favorite adaptation scribe, Justin Marks, had been attached as the film’s writer, so an announcement could be forthcoming regarding the project’s script. With Goyer’s new science-fiction television series “Flash Forward” about to premiere, there’s no telling how much time he’ll have to work on “Super Max” if/when the studio comes around, but he was still willing to share a few bits of insight into the long-rumored project that would put DC’s emerald archer, Ollie Queen, behind bars.

“We came up with the idea and thought it could work in either the Marvel or the DC universe,” he explained. “It needed that type of character and there are analogues in both universes. Green Arrow seemed to make the most amount of sense.”

As for whether “Super Max” is making any forward progress these days, Goyer simply said,

“It’s definitely something we’re developing.”
