SUPER: IFC Picks Up James Gunn’s Film and the First Clip Hits the Web


IFC Films has acquired U.S. rights to Super, which was written and directed by James Gunn (Pets) and produced by Miranda Bailey of Ambush Entertainment and Ted Hope of This is that. Ambush Entertainment’s financing arm, Cold Iron Pictures, financed the film which was executive-produced by Matthew Leutwyler (Creepshow) and Rainn Wilson (The Office). IFC Films will release Super under its new IFC Midnight banner.

In Super, Frank’s (Rainn Wilson) wife leaves him for a seductive, psychopathic drug dealer, Frank is transformed and the Crimson Bolt is born. With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie (Ellen Page), the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife (Liv Tyler). The rules were written a long time ago: You are not supposed to molest children, cut lines or key cars; if you do, prepare to face the wrath of the Crimson Bolt!

The film which stars Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page (Inception), Liv Tyler (The Ledge), Nathan Fillion (Castle) and Kevin Bacon (X-Men: First Class) is slated to hit theaters in 2010.
