Super Bowl XLV: The Super Bowl of Geek Trailers, Including Super 8 and Captain America Premieres


Super Bowl XLV will air on February 6th, and you wouldn’t think it would be the place to “get your geek on” but, it’s starting to become just that. Some highly anticipated geek flicks are getting the famed Super Bowl commercial treatment this year. Disney will be launching a new ad for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Universal will be presenting a new commercial for Cowboys and Aliens. Paramount will be airing ads for Rango and Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom during the pre-game show, as will Sony with ads for Battle: Los Angeles and Priest.

Paramount Pictures holds the largest studio presence for Super Bowl commercials this year. The studio will premiere new ads for J.J. Abrams forthcoming film, Super 8, director Michael Bay‘s third installment in the Transformers series, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, as well as the Kenneth Branagh directed Thor, and the Joe Johnston directed Captain America: The First Avenger.

Captain America: The First Avenger starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Neal McDonough, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell and Toby Jones is slated to hit theaters on July 22nd, 2011.

THOR stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Josh Dallas, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Clark Gregg and Colm Feore. The movie hits U.K. theaters on April 29th, 2011 and U.S. theaters on May 6th, 2011.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon hits theaters on July 1st, 2011 and stars Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Kevin Dunn, Julie White, Ken Jeong, Patrick Dempsey and Alan Tudyk.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, directed by Rob Marshall and starring Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Penelope Cruz, Sam Clafin, Stephen Graham, and Gemma Ward is slated to hit theaters on May 20th, 2011.

Battle: Los Angeles, directed by Jonathan Liebesman and starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, Lucas Till, Michael Peña, Noel Fisher, Cory Hardrict, Joey King,Taylor Handley and Neil Brown Jr.is slated to hit theaters on March 11th, 2011.

Priest, directed by Scott Charles Stewart and starring Paul Bettany, Stephen Moyer, Karl Urban and Cam Gigandet is slated to hit theaters on May 13th, 2011.

Cowboys & Aliens, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde, Paul Dano, Keith Carradine,Clancy Brown and Adam Beach is slated to hit theaters on July 29th, 2011.

Super 8, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills and Amanda Michalka is slated to hit theaters on June 10th, 2011.
