Stephen Fry Cast As Robert Downey Jr.’s Brother in Sherlock 2

Director Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, Excalibur) has cast the venerable Brit of all trades, Stephen Fry (Alice in Wonderland) opposite Robert Downey Jr. (Gravity, The Avengers) and Jude Law (Contagion) in the as yet Untitled Sherlock Holmes Sequel as Sherlock’s older, smarter brother, Mycroft. The news was announced on BBC’s The Danny Baker Show by Stephen Fry himself.

The character Mycroft’s sleuthing powers far exceed those of his younger sibling, yet he is incapable of performing any sort of detective work due to his sloth-like nature and indifference to crime. He is simple unwilling to put forth the physical effort needed to bring cases to their conclusion. He would rather be considered wrong than take the time and prove himself right.

The as yet Untitled Sherlock Holmes Sequel is slated to hit theaters on December 16th, 2011.
