These are the Voyages… for “Star Trek” fans, the voyages go on in the form of an internationally produced, fan audio drama series called “Star Trek: The Continuing Mission”. This audio series is a non-profit, fan-produced, downloadable audio series that began in 2007. The series stars a cast of over twenty performers, including Star Trek alumni guest stars such as Lawrence Montaigne (Stonn of “Star Trek: Of Gods and Men”) and Guy Vardaman (consultant to “Star Trek: The Next Generation”).
Andy Tyrer and Sebastian Prooth created “Star Trek: The Continuing Mission” as a new series with the aid of Star Trek news services and online forums to cast a new crew made up of Shakespearian-trained stage actors and radio veterans. Actor Patrick McCray, who has years of theater directing and producing experience and also plays the villain on the audio show, produces the show with Prooth and Tyrer as Co-Executive Producer. The series has also benefitted from the talent of playwright, David Raines who has evolved “Star Trek’s squeaky clean image to a new level with gripping “HBO” style story telling in keeping with current television drama style”. The production value has impressed reviewers of the series, including CNN and About.com:
“Star Trek: The Continuing Mission produced a slick, professional- quality drama in a genre that’s threatening to give mainstream TV studios a run for their money.”- Thom Patterson of CNN
“This is the base standard for million-dollar productions, produced here with diligence, effort, and pluck by qualified amateurs, should really prompt us to wonder where those Hollywood millions are going.” – Mark Wilson of About.com
Here is the synopsis for this audio series:
