SPORE Game Evolves Into A Movie

spore logoEA Games and Twentieth Century Fox has teamed up to adapt the popular game “Spore” into an animated feature film.

Chris Wedge (“Ice Age”) will direct this animated adaptation.  The script is up to Greg Erb and Jason Oremland (“The Return of King Doug”) at the writers desk.  Animation will be done by EA and Blue Sky Studios (“Ice Age”, “Robots”).  EA’s Patrick O’Brien and Lucy Bradshaw, VP of Maxis Studio, will executive produce.

Wedge is ready to take on “Spore”:

“I’m always looking for unique worlds to go to in animation. From every perspective — visually, thematically and comedically — the world of ‘Spore’ provides the potential to put something truly original on the screen.”

Spore” is a popular game that was released back in September of 2008 that lets users create a creature species and dictate its evolution through interaction of the environment and other creature species in user-created worlds.  Users get to literally ‘play God’!  “Spore” was created by Will Wright who also was behind “The Sims” franchise.  The “Spore” game franchise has sold over 3.2 million units to date.  Check out the game trailer here:

Executive producer, Lucy Bradshaw adds:

“With more than 100 million unique creatures uploaded to our website, it’s clear that people are passionate about the game, and it will be exciting to offer a powerful medium like film in order to expand their experience with ‘Spore,’ “
